Rumors had circulated on social media in the previous 24 hours that the 49ers and Bosa were so far apart in contract negotiations that a trade may take place before Week 1.
Shanahan hopes he didn't have to address questions about trade speculations on the Internet.
But that is the predicament we are currently in. When asked if the 49ers would consider trading Bosa, he responded with only one word.
"No," Shanahan replied, adding that he "hasn't talked to many people about that (Bosa trade rumors).
Bosa, the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, has been a no-show since training camp began. He missed all three preseason games and has fines totalling more than $1 million in cash.
Even still, the concept of San Francisco dealing their greatest player is absurd. The squad is currently in the midst of a Super Bowl window that is wide open. Bosa definitely plays a significant part in this.
Bosa, 25, is negotiating a deal that will make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL
The arrangement should be worth more than $32 million each year, including a large amount of guaranteed income.
