After signing quarterback Matt Corral off waivers less than three weeks ago, the New England Patriots have decided to release him off their roster.
Corral, who had been selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round of the 2022 draft, did not participate in any games due to injury during the previous season.
On August 30, Carolina placed him on waivers, and the Patriots claimed him the following day.
The Patriots had to place the former star of Ole Miss on the exempt/left squad list since he quit the team on September 9 and didn't show up for practice for a couple of days after that.
Henry McKenna of Fox Sports said at the time that a source stated that Corral "just kind of flaked off.... Let's take measures to ensure that this individual is not abandoned to the wolves.
Two days later, head coach Bill Belichick said of the player, "He's on exempt status. " This statement did not shed any light on the scenario.
I am unable to offer any commentary on the matter. That's a private concern of yours."
Additionally, on Monday, the Patriots made another change at quarterback by removing quarterback Ian Book off the practice squad.
